New Player : Zev

Welcome to BlogNomic.

Zev joins us midway through a Hiatus - play has been paused while we consider Joranj's victory claim, so all you can do at the moment is offer your verdict on it (or ignore it, if you'd rather leave it up to the other players). If there's a majority in favour, we'll be starting a brand new Dynasty under Joranj's guidance, later this weekend. So it's a good time to join.

Quorum has now risen to nine.

Returning Sorcerer

Kamikaze has returned to BlogNomic.

Good to have you back with us.

Quorum is still 8.

Declaration of Victory

With the passing of the time limit on Cayvie's Contest, I decare msyelf the victor of this Dynasty of BlogNomic.

Call For Judgment: 2000 simultaneous rainfalls

The stranglehold currently on the game was achieved, in a large part, by Kevan and Keitalia casting Rain Fall, sustaining each other, and giving joranj (and all of us) 2000 water.

However, in order to do this, Kevan and Keitalia would have to ALTERNATE casting Rain Fall 2000 times. Think about this. In order for this event to be done legally, Keitalia should cast Rain Fall as many times as she has water, giving Kevan that much Water. Then Kevan would have to cast Rain Fall as many times as he had water, sustaining Keitalia.

THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED.

In the GNDT, they changed everyone's water from X to 2000 + X instantaneously. However, nobody had 2000 water with which to cast 2000 simultaneous Rain Falls. This is a direct violation of the rules.

They could claim that they were simplifying their actions, as they didn't want to make hundreds of GNDT entries.

However, this is the root of the problem: if they had done this action legally, Kevan and Keitalia each casting, say, 10 rain falls 200 times, then other sorcerers would have had time to realize what was going on and intervene.

Basically, I'm saying that the GNDT should be reset to what it was before this whole deal took place, and nobody should be muted and/or dust stormed.
All dust storms vortexed and re-instated as of 18h42 GMT.

Damanor isn't idle any more.

I'm officially back now.

Since "it is never mandatory for any Sorcerer to take part in the contest" (rule 20) I am declaring myself a non-participant in the current contest, since it would be really lame for me to accidentally win. And I don't want another dynasty right now, in any case.

Quorum goes to 8.

(I won't bother to update the GNDT, since it really doesn't matter at this point.)

Proposal : Don't Look Around The Eyes [Trivial]

If the spells "Mute" and "Rain Fall" have been removed from the spell list, put them back as they were. If Rule 17 has been repealed, restore it to how it was before it was repealed.

Enacted by Kevan, 3rd Feb - timed out 8 votes to 3. Proposal has no effect, as Spells no longer exist, and Rule 17 didn't exist at the time the proposal should have been enacted. +2 to Brendan, +1 to Kevan.

FYI - what just happened

1. Keitalia and Kevan each cast 1000 Rain Falls, one after the other, so they sustained each other. This gives everyone 2000 water.

2. I used 1800 Conversions to give myself 200 Energy in each element.

3. I cast a fire arrow at Wittgenstein, putting me on -20 Balance.

4. I cast a Mute, which puts me on -31 balance and 46 Power. I cast 11 Healing Draughts on myself, puting me back to -20 Balance and 101 Power. I continue in this fasion, casting a total of 50 Healing Draughts and 9 Mutes. For the draughts, I loose 50 water, gaining 250 Life. For the Mutes, I loose 225 Power, 135 Air, 108 Fire and 108 Water. I gain 50 balance in total for the draughts, but loose 99 for the Mutes, leaving me on -69 Balance.

At the end of which, I have a Power of 96, 65 Air, 92 Fire, 42 Water and 200 Earth. Everyone except myself, Kevan, Keitalia and ChinDoGu are both Dust Clouded and Muted.

Contest: Finish Him!

The objective of this contest:

48 hours after the posting of this contest, I will check everybody's statistics. The Sorcerer with the fourth-most Power will win. If any two sorcerers have the same Power, they will both be ignored for the purposes of this Contest.

For example, if the scores are 200, 190, 190, 100, 90, and 40, then both the 190's will be ignored, and the Sorcerer with the score of 40 will become the new Archmage.

The prize:

The winner of this contest becomes Archmage.

Proposal: Controlling Inflation [Trivial]

As agreed with the Magus of Earth/Fire in the comments thread of Proposal: Inflation, change the description of the Spell Lava Flow to:
Lava Flow
1 Earth, 1 Fire

Every Sorceror except the caster loses 10 Power. The caster loses 12 Power, and gets -1 Balance.

Proposal : Carrying Capacity [Trivial]

[ We're not allowed to build more than one Gewgaw of a particular type, because some of them become overly powerful in multiples.

But for some reason, this rule doesn't apply to traded Gewgaws - collaborating mages are allowed to stockpile as many multiples as they like, and collaboration has become a much more relevant issue since the advent of inter-School warfare.

So in essence, players without collaborators can carry only one Gewgaw of a given type - players with collaborators can have as many as they like. This seems unreasonable, and doesn't make any thematic sense. ]

In Rule 16 (Gewgaws), replace:-

No Sorcerer may Craft a particular Gewgaw if he or she already has at least one of that Gewgaw in Inventory.

with:-

A Sorceror may not own more than one of a particular Gewgaw; any excess are automatically destroyed and lost.

And replace "when crafting Pebbles" with "for Pebbles", if the "Pebbles" proposal passed.

Any Sorcerors owning multiple copies of a Gewgaw at the time of this Proposal's passing shall be refunded the Energy value of that Gewgaw, prior to its destruction.

Enacted by Kevan, 3rd Feb - timed out 4 votes to 2. Proposal has no effect, as Gewgaws no longer exist. +3 to Kevan.

Proposal : Pebbles [Trivial]

To the "Pebble" Gewgaw, add:-

The one-per-inventory rule is ignored when crafting Pebbles.

[ They're a bit too boring, otherwise. ]

Enacted by Kevan, 3rd Feb - timed out 3 votes to 1. Proposal has no effect, as Pebbles no longer exist. +3 to Kevan.

Proposal: Win Friends and Influence Blognomic (Trivial)

Add the following spells to the spells list:

Tornado
1 air, 1 water, 5 power
Casting sorceror rolls a DICE. If the result of the die is even, sorceror gains 1 point of energy in each type where sorceror's energy level is even. If the result of the die is odd, sorceror gains 1 point of energy in each type where the sorceror's energy level is odd. Costs for casting are paid before dice are rolled. Oddness or eveness is determined before energy is added.

Add the following to the Gewgaw's list:

Spiky Armadillo
1 fire, 1 earth, 5 power
The next time that a spell does damage to the owning sorceror, the spell's caster takes half that amount of damage, rounded down, and Spiky Armadillo is destroyed. Spells cast by gewgaws are presumed to have been cast by the gewgaw's owner for purposes of Spiky Armadillo.

Enacted by Kevan, 3rd Feb - timed out 4 votes to 0. Proposal has no effect, as Spells and Gewgaws no longer exist. +2 to Orkboi, +1 to Kevan.

Proposal: Opposites Attract (Trivial)

Add the following new spells to the spells list:

Give and Take
2 Water, 2 Fire, 5 power
Destroy any one Gewgaw owned by target sorceror. That sorceror gains an amount of power equal to the number of energy points in that Gewgaw's crafting cost as listed in the Blognomic rules. Unique gewgaws may not be destroyed in this way.

Add the following to the Gewgaws list:

Enchanter's Crib
2 Air, 1 Earth, 10 power
Whenever the owner of Enchanter's Crib gains energy as part of their schooling, they gain 1 additional point of all energy strains they gain, but lose 1 point of all energy strains they do not gain. If Enchanter's Crib ever reduces the amount of en energy strain to zero, or that energy equals zero to begin with, Enchanter's Crib is destroyed.

Enacted by Kevan, 3rd Feb - timed out 2 votes to 0. Proposal has no effect, as Spells and Gewgaws no longer exist. +2 to Orkboi, +1 to Kevan.

Proposal: Inflation

Having recently perused the Dynasty records and taken note of a certain Ascension stratagem employed during the First Dynasty of Est, and having examined the Spell Lava Flow and taken note of Earth/Fire's current Energy reserves, it occurs to me that a repeat performance might be in order.

In light of that blatantly anti-Kevan information, and in light of the fact that we've all got a decent amount of Energy now and should really have to pay for what we cast, I'd like to propose a few inflationary measures:
  • That Lava Flow, being currently the most dangerous Spell in the game, have its cost changed to 2 Fire, 1 Earth.

  • That Vortex (which currently makes a Stone Head owner immune to Dust Storm) have its cost changed to 2 Air.

  • That Healing Jet have its cost changed to 2 Water, 1 Air, and have its effectiveness changed to +3d6 Power.

Passed by joranj; Timed Out, 4 votes to 0

Proposal: Definitions

Thats the following new rule be added to the ruleset

Definitions:

The following Definitions apply to all rules using the terms defined.

A COST is the energy or power expended in order to cast a spell, craft a gegaw, or perform some other similar task

an EFFECT is any change made within the GNDT as a result of the effects section of the spell, ability section of a gegaw, or similar EXCEPT for those relating to balance.

Balance Changes as a result of spells cast, gegaws used, or any other action are defined to be neither a COST nor an EFFECT

Declaring Paleface idle

Quorum is now 7.

Drat and Blast

I am afraid I will have to go Idle, in case you haven't already tagged me thus. Meatspace events have caught up to me recently, as I feared they would, stripping me of time I would otherwise have spent trying to follow the game.

My sincerest apologies for any disruption.

Question

Is there a way to decline or deny a particular submission to the blognomic history through a vote or something? 'Cause, uh ... no personal offense or anything Keitalia but your chronicling of Kevan's second dynasty is lacking ... at best.

Announcement: It's On

Let it be known hereby that the Glorious Theoscholastium of Air and Water does declare War, to begin at Midnight, Greenwich Mean Time, on January 26, 2004, against the Sovereign School of Air and Fire; the aforementioned War to last Twenty-Four Hours.

Let it further be known that any Sorcerers from that School who choose not to cast offensive Spells against the Holy Thaumic Warriors of Cloud in that time, but instead, to accede power to their new Magus peacefully, shall be admitted and welcomed as siblings in the Glorious Theoscholastium of Cloud, freely and without charge.

Let it be known, indeed, that Sorcerers from that Nation who choose to resist and who do attempt to harm the Holy Thaumic Warriors shall be declared Rebels, and ground under our Glorious Heel.

Let it be known that any Sorcerers from other Schools who aid any such Rebels shall be known as Conspirators, and had best watch their backs, as they are next.

Proposal : Brave Sir Robin

[ Giving the option for Magi to surrender their Schools from Dispersion Battles, if it looks like a foregone conclusion. They still lose, and their School is still dispersed - they just don't have to suffer the combat (or waste everyone's time waiting for the twenty-four hours to arrive and expire). ]

To Rule 21 (Dispersions), add (after the second paragraph):-

If a School is losing a Dispersion Battle (or is due to partake in one, and would lose it on current Power totals), the Magus of that School may choose to surrender.

Also, replace "At the end of those 24 hours" with

At the end of those 24 hours, or if one School surrenders,

Enacted by Kevan, 28th Jan. +12 to Kevan.
Probably more visible if I mention it here than in GNDT comments - Wittgenstein cast 12 Lightning Blast at Joranj, but only rolled 12D6; you should roll two dice for each Blast, not one...

Proposal: Energise! (trivial)

Add the following to the list of Gewgaws:

The Energiser
2 Air, 3 energy x, 10 Power
A Sorcerer in possession of the Energiser may claim 3 of Energy x per week. They may claim any or all of this amount at any time during the week, although it cannot be claimed retrospectively.

If you think it's too cheap or expensive, please let me edit it before voting. Ta.

Enacted by Kevan, 28th Jan - timed out, 6 votes to 2. +2 to Joranj, +1 to Kevan.
