Proposal: Temporary Administrative Privileges

Should this proposal pass, I (topher) will be granted Administrative Privileges for a period of time no greater than 30 days from the time this proposal is Enacted.

At ANY point in time after this Proposal is enacted (but prior to the 30 day maximum timeline) if anyone would like to see me step down, they merely have to submit an unofficial entry on the blog and get one other 'For' vote in the comments, and I will immediately remove myself from the honored rolls of the Admins.

I'm proposing this because the existing admins seem to be very busy these days, and though I am new, I would very much like to help out, but do not wish to force anyone to live under the tyranny of a 'not long on this Nomic' Gremmie, and I am vaguely concerned by the fact that Enacting this proposal would create a situation where there are more Active Gremmie Admins than Active Gremmie non-Admins.

I have considerable experience in Administration (Being a UNIX Sys Admin by day), I have considerable time during the day and evenings to keep up on current 'doings' about the Beach, and I have some reasonable skill with web development (despite my '& lt' vs < problems earlier today.)

Your consideration is appreciated on this matter.

Note that the "At ANY point in time after this Proposal is enacted" stuff isn't really legal because it's not affecting the rules or the gamestate. Could argue that this proposal just takes 30 days to enact (parallel to the rest of the game), but eh.

Proposal : Black Leather Jacket

Replace the "Crown" Equipment with:-

Jacket: There is only one Jacket, and it's a black leather one. When a Gremmie successfully Jumps the Shark, they may claim the Jacket if their Skill then exceeds that of all other Gremmies. The Gremmie wearing the Jacket is the King of the Beach.


Remove the Island of Kings from Rule 13 (Places).

Remove the Crown from the gamestate.

Proposal: Drop In Check

Enact a new Rule, "Drop In Check":-

When a rule other than this one requires it, two Surfing Gremmies have a Drop In Check performed on them. This is done by posting a comment to the GNDT including the text "Drop In check (X, Y): DICE10" where X is the Surfing Gremmie who started movement on the wave first, and Y is the second Surfing Gremmie.

If both Gremmies would start movement in the same Yard, X is the Gremmie with the highest Skill and Y is the Gremmie with the lowest Skill. If both Gremmies would start movement in the same Yard and have the same Skill, X is the Gremmie whose name appears uppermost in the Active Gremmies list and Y is the Gremmie whose name appears lowest in the Active Gremmies list.

The following equation determines the outcome of the Drop In check --
Z = (DICE10 result minus X's skill) plus Y's skill

If Z is equal to or less than 0:

X Drops In Savagely on Y. Y's stance is changed to "Wiped Out", Y's skill is decreased by 1, and Y is dragged 2 Yards in the direction of the wave's movement (not to be dragged any farther than the wave's ending Yard) . X's skill is increased by 1 and X continues to surf the wave.

If Z is equal to or less than 2 but greater than 0:

X cuts off Y. Y's stance is changed to "Swimming" and Y is dragged 2 yards in the direction of the wave's movement (not to be dragged any farther than the wave's ending Yard). X continues to surf the wave.

If Z is greater than 2 but less than 8:

X and Y share the wave and both Gremmies continue to surf the wave.

If Z is equal to or greater than 9 but less than 10:

Y cuts off X. X's stance is changed to "Swimming" and is dragged 2 yards towards the lowest roll (they will not be dragged any farther than the lowest role). Y continues to surf the wave.

If Z is equal to or greater than 10:

Y Drops In Savagely on X. X's stance is changed to "Wiped Out", X's skill is decreased by 1, and X is dragged 2 yards in the direction of the wave's movement (not be dragged any farther than the wave's ending Yard). Y's skill is increased by 1 and Y continues to surf the wave.


Life is tough in the waves, you just never know when a fellow grind seeker will block your way or flip your board.

Proposal: New Item

Add the following to Rule 14, constituting the creation of a new item:

Mr. Zoggs Surf Wax: If any Gremmie has obtained and equipped Mr. Zoggs Surf Wax, they gain an additional 2 skill points when in the surfing stance, or may move an additional 2 yards per day when in the swimming stance. If a Gremmie with Mr. Zoggs Surf Wax equipped wipes out they lose eir current supply of Mr. Zoggs Surf Wax and may not equip it again until they obtain an additional supply.

Proposal: Look, No Hands

Add the following to the Shark rule:-

If a Stunt would cross the path of the Shark (ie. the movement being used to perform the Stunt starts on one side of the Shark and ends on the other), then the Gremmie performing it is considered to be Jumping the Shark.

If a Stunt that Jumps the Shark is Successful, it is instead considered Perfect. If the Gremmie wipes out, he or she is moved to the same Yard position as the Shark.

Proposal: Fix the shark

if a rule called "the shark" exists, append the following to the end of it


If at any time the shark's yards become less than 1 they become equal to 1

Proposal : The Physical Impossibility of Death

[ Quazie suggested a shark a while ago, excellently, but there's no sign of it yet. ]

Enact a new Rule, "The Shark":-

A Shark is patrolling the waters - it is listed as a Gremmie in the GNDT, and has a Yard distance from the shore. Its Stance is always "Swimming".

If the Shark has the same Yard value as a Gremmie, it may attack that Gremmie, unless it has already attacked them earlier in the day. Any Gremmie may post a GNDT comment of "Shark Attack: DICEX" where X is the Skill of the victim - the victim loses the resultant roll's worth of Skill.

Any Gremmie may move the Shark instead of moving themselves, by posting a GNDT comment of "Shark Move: DICEX", where X is the Yard distance of the furthest-out Gremmie. The Shark is moved to the result of the roll.


Set the Shark's Yards to 100.
